Atlixco (the city, not the blvd)

My friend invited her friends and me to her house to eat. Unfortunately her mother was sick so we decided to go on a day trip to a neighboring town instead.

Atlixco, Mexico is a beautiful little town known for its good climate and flowers.

Even the Italian Coffee Company (Puebla's "Starbucks") is fancy in Atlixco.
Of course you wouldn't want to spoil the color and beauty with a regular, common parkbenchAround the main plaza are flower vendors. Lilies, roses, cacti...
...even a lovely pair of Dr. Seuss trees can be purchased here. Shaped bushes are not uncommon, even in Puebla, anything from baskets to turkeys (maybe they are trying to compensate for not celebrating Thanksgiving), but these little guys are only found here.
I think they are friends with the friendly turtle.
Because El Día de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is right around the corner, there were some extra exhibits set up.

Here is La Catrina (skeleton dressed up as a rich lady). If you need a little more help, it is a skull wearing a feathered hat.El Santo de Muerte, which shares a creepy resemblance of the Grim Reaper.
La Calavera (skull) looking to the left. Going to be honest and admit that I didn't see it until I was looking at it in my camera.
And, of course, two skeletons doing the fandango.
In case you need help with the above picture here is the cheat sheet. From the plaza you can see the Cathedral de San Miguel (Saint Micheal). We were a few weeks early for the festival, nor did we have the name, so we decided against going up to visit it.
Next, we went to the market to eat and that was when the real fun began. This is your average everyday market, but then you have a section of people vending meals. As you walk in, you are immediately bombarded with people trying to hand you samples. You select your meat vendor and place an order as everyone else screams for your attention. Then you go to choose a table. Once again you are overwhelmed by ladies calling to you, because they own the business of their tables.
Looks so calm in the above picture... So glad my friend knew what to do, and with her guidance it was GREAT experience.

So once you have your table the owner of the table sells drinks, tortillas, cheese, avocados, chiles, pico de gallo, onions, and whatever else you might need for your tacos.
It was AMAZING!!! Why do we not have blue corn tortillas in the States?
To top it off you can have live music and freak out the kid next to you by taking a picture.
